About non-return (check) valves

A non-return valve, also called a check valve, lets fluid flow in one direction and closes when the flow stops or reverses. It protects pumps, prevents a pipeline from draining back and stops contamination flowing back into a supply.

Swing, lift and wafer types

  • Swing type: a hinged disc swings open with the flow and falls back onto the seat when flow reverses. Swing checks have a low pressure drop and are common on water and wastewater mains.
  • Lift type: the disc lifts vertically off the seat. GMC's lift-type datasheets list a stainless steel spring, which helps the disc close.
  • Wafer type: a compact design that is clamped between two pipe flanges, saving space and weight.

Non-Return (Check) Valves: FAQs

What is the difference between a non-return valve and a check valve?
They are the same thing. "Non-return valve" is common in British and European usage; "check valve" is common in American usage.
Which check valve type should I choose?
Swing checks suit most water and wastewater lines with a low pressure drop. Lift checks are often chosen where faster closure is needed, and wafer checks where space and weight are limited. Share your line conditions with GMC to confirm the right type.
What is the price of a non-return valve in Pakistan?
The price depends on the size, pressure rating, body material, end connection, quantity and any testing or documents required, so GMC quotes each enquiry individually. Send the sizes, ratings and quantities through the quote form and GMC will reply with a written quotation.

Need help choosing?

Send your line conditions (medium, pressure, temperature, size) and GMC will recommend from the non-return (check) valves range.
